Selling here is a classic 1963 original VW Beetle. There may be others in this original condition, but not many! This beetle came from an older lady from Yakima, Washington. She was the original owner and reached a point where she could no longer drive. She wanted to give it to her kids but none of them were interested in having it. She decided to sell it, but only on the condition that if the buyer decided to sell it her family would have first right of refusal. She passed away, and it was offered to her children who did not wish to buy it back so it is now selling to the highest bidder! We have had this beetle for 10 plus years now. It has always been stored indoors, but has been driven in all weather conditions, but not very much! Shortly after obtaining it, we decided to make it an electric driven vehicle using the best quality drive components on the market at the time. The motor is A/C with a converter/controller from the 4 DC batteries that run the vehicle. We just put 4 brand new batteries in it! It also has regenerative brakes so not only does it produce electricity while braking, but it saves the use of the brakes for far less maintenance. Cool! No oil changes, brake jobs rarely. The only regular maintenance is lubing the grease points!
This beetle was designed for mostly in-town use. It can do 55 plus on the freeway, but the motor was sized to go farther rather than faster. Up to 120 miles on a charge. For the most part, we usually put it in 3rd gear and drive it like an automatic. It accelerates far better than the 40 horse it was originally equipped with. We are going to include its original engine with this sale which has all of the original tin and parts with it, some are very hard to find. It still runs, and has been kept in dry storage.
The electric conversion is a $10,000.00 job. The beetle without this is worth near that with out all the electric, so someone is going to get a deal here. It is important to note that when we did the electric conversion we did not cut any body panels and drill a bunch of holes to do it. Our goal was to keep it so that if we or someone wanted to put it back to original, they could do it keeping it all original.
There are numerous touch up spots on this so to prevent any rusting. The pics will show these. There is no rust-through in the original pans, just surface rust below the car and a little in the battery box area, but there has not been a battery in there to contribute to it for years.
The reason we are selling it is that we do not use it, and also we are moving and simply do not have the desire to move this as well. Better some VW lover gets it and keeps it in its original condition. :o)
We will address any questions you may have for this as quickly as possible. Please, only those serious about buying it should ask questions or bid. We reserve the right to sell this locally and end the auction as long as it is listed and the buy-it-now option has not been chosen.
